The multi-disciplinary concept

Patients with oligodontia are a limited group of patients with a demanding challenge of multidisciplinary treatment. It is therefore important to record the experiences systematically to improve the knowledge and the outcome of the instituted treatment.

Our multidisciplinary team consist of orthodontist, prosthodontist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon and pedodontist representing the public health care system. Associated to our team are also specialities such as anesthesiology, pediatrics, genetics, nuclear and internal medicine.

After the primary clinical evaluation all referred patients are seen at a conference for the first time. Prior to the conference cephalometric, orthopantomographic, and intraoral radiographs and dental casts are obtained.

The purposes of the conferences are
1) To propose/decide a general treatment plan in agreement with the established need of the patient.
2) To evaluate and adjust the on-going treatment schedule according to the proposed treatment plan and make the necessary follow-up of young patients during the growth development.
3) To evaluate and present the outcome of the treatment in order to collect the necessary experience for improvement of treatment in the future.
