Pre-treatment examples |
Some patients need additional treatment before the implant can be inserted into the jaw. |
1. |
Any inflammatory conditions in relation to the teeth, gums or jawbone must be removed |
For example, it may be neccesary to: Perform scaling on a regular basis. Give instructions to improve oral hygiene. Conduct a more extensive periodontal treatment. |
2. |
If the jawbone's height and width are insufficient to support an implant, a reconstruction of the bone of the toothless area is needed. |
The bone reconstruction can be made along with the implant placement or as a separate procedure. See example of bone augmentation. |
3. |
If the distance between the existing teeth is insufficient, the tooth position irregular or dental occlusion abnormal, a preliminary tooth alignment may be neccesary to make room for the implants and to harmonize the dental arches. See example of orthodontic treatment. |
